BC Housing is planning to build new supportive housing including Complex Care Housing at 2991 Trethewey Street. This project is an important part of our continued effort to address and prevent homelessness in the community.

About the Project

BC Housing purchased the property at 2991 Trethewey Street in February 2024. On this site, we plan to build approximately 60 supportive homes. The building will also have a central kitchen, laundry, dining/common areas and staff offices.

There is a vacant 8-unit townhouse complex on this property. We began site work and demolition of this building in mid-2024. This site is already zoned for the proposed use. The project will require a Development Permit and a Building Permit from the City of Abbotsford. If approved, we expect the supportive homes to open in 2027.

These will be studio homes for single adults (19+) of all genders, including seniors and people with disabilities. Residents will be people from the local area who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness and need support services to maintain their housing.

BC Housing will select an experienced non-profit housing operator through a fair and open process to manage the building and provide services to residents. Staff will be onsite 24/7 and provide residents with daily meals, life and employment skills training, and connections to health care and other community services.

Complex Care Housing

Fraser Health will offer Complex Care Housing services in 20 of the homes in the building. Services will include enhanced health supports, including person-centered health care, culturally safe services and more. These services will be in addition to the supports provided by the non-profit operator and available to residents under one roof and in their own home.

Complex Care Housing has been a welcome addition to supportive housing programs across B.C., including in the Fraser Region. Learn more by visiting gov.bc.ca/complexcarehousing.

Community Engagement

A caring community contributes greatly to the success of people transitioning out of homelessness. We will share updates and keep lines of communication open with neighbours as the project moves forward. We will share further updates in 2025 after we have chosen a non-profit housing operator.
