BC Housing and the Governing Council of the Salvation Army in Fort St John, Northern Centre for Hope are working together to provide 42 new homes with supports for people experiencing or at-risk of homelessness. This new housing at 9916 99 Ave will provide vulnerable people with a safe and secure home that includes access to the support services they need.

Community Engagement

We are excited to propose new homes with supports for vulnerable people in Fort St John. We want to hear from the community about how we can ensure success of supportive housing in the community.

BC Housing and our partners would like to hear from you. Please submit your questions and comments in the Q&A below.

Proposal Details

The new homes would be for local residents over the age of 19 who are experiencing or who are at risk of homelessness and who need additional support services to maintain housing. Using BC Housing’s Coordinated Access and Assessment process, the Salvation Army will lead the resident selection process. Potential residents will complete a supportive housing application. Selection will be based on need, the perceived ability of the individual to be successful and the kinds of support services they need to be successfully housed.

The Salvation Army would operate the new building. The Salvation Army is well-suited for this project as they already have a successful track record of operating transitional and recovery housing in Fort St. John. Their staff have existing relationships with many of the people living in shelters and on the street throughout the city. The proposal builds onto existing programming, providing a full spectrum of housing services that would now include long term housing options.

BC Housing has submitted development permit applications to the City of Fort St. John The permits are being processed and construction is anticipated to begin in August 2021. Residents would be able to move in by early 2022.
