BC Housing and the City of Kamloops are working together to create 98 homes with support services at 769-845 Mission Flats Road in Kamloops. These new homes are an important part of our continued effort to address and prevent homelessness in the community.
Development & construction
This housing will consist of two permanent modular buildings. These buildings will replace the current 55 units of temporary modular housing at 805 Mission Flats Road. The temporary modular housing was a short-term, emergency response in 2018 to provide safe shelter ahead of the winter season. This building was only meant to be used for a few years, and a replacement is needed.
Construction will start in October 2024. We currently expect these homes to open in early 2025.
Operator
ASK Wellness Society will manage both new buildings and continue to provide services to residents.ASK Wellness Society currently operates the temporary housing at 805 Mission Flats Road. These residents will not lose their housing. They will be consideredfirst for the new supportive homes when the buildings are complete.
About supportive housing
Supportive homes are deeply affordable studio apartments for people who need supports to maintain their housing. Residents are single adults (19+) of all genders, including seniors, people with disabilities or any others who need supports to maintain stable housing. Supportive housing typically includes services such as meals, referrals to health and community supports and culturally informed services.
A caring community can contribute greatly to the success of supportive housing residents. We reached out directly to neighbours and nearby businesses on June 24, 2024 to introduce the project and provide contact information. We reached out again on September 13 2024 to neighbours along Mission Flats Road about construction starting and to announce ASK Wellness as the operator of both buildings. We will share a direct phone number for the buildings when it is available.
