Maple Ridge - Royal Crescent

Proposed design subject to development review process.
Development
In 2018, BC Housing opened temporary modular supportive homes at 22548 Royal Crescent due to an urgent need in the community. In 2025, these temporary modular homes reached the end of their lifespan. 52 new permanent supportive homes opened at 1695 Fraser Street (Fraser and 224th Street) in Maple Ridge. This new building is called Rivers Reach, ʔi cən tecəl ʔə tə stɑl̕əw̓ ("I arrive at the river” in Halkomelem) and will welcome all the temporary housing residents from Royal Crescent. The operator, Coast Mental Health, is looking forward to welcoming residents to Rivers Reach before the end of April 2025.
After all residents have moved out of the modular units at Royal Crescent, we will begin to clear the property for construction. We anticipate this site work to begin at the end of April 2025. During this time, any work areas surrounding the site will be clearly marked for safety. We will follow all local bylaws and share notices regarding any expected traffic or noise disruptions.
Renderings of proposed project in Maple Ridge are subject to development review process.
Operator
In April 2023, BC Housing selected New Vista Society through a fair and open process to develop a Community Housing Fund (CHF) proposal to build seniors’ housing on the Royal Crescent site. In March 2024, New Vista Society was successful in this proposal. The land will be leased to New Vista and they will develop, own and operate the seniors' housing.
Community engagement
On March 2, 2018, we mailed a letter to neighbours to share that BC Housing has purchased land at 22534, 22548, and 22556 Royal Crescent in Maple Ridge. This letter introduced this project and shared our intentions to rezone the properties for up to 55 units of temporary modular housing with supports for people experiencing homelessness in Maple Ridge. This letter also included an invitation to a community open house on March 15, 2018, to learn more, ask questions, and meet the project team.
On September 14, 2022, we mailed a letter to neighbours to provide an update that we are seeking to rezone this site to become affordable housing for seniors.
On April 11, 2025, we mailed a letter to neighbours to share an update about the status of the temporary modular housing at 22548 Royal Crescent, including development timeline and operator information for the new affordable seniors housing.
A caring community can contribute greatly to the success and well-being of our housing residents. BC Housing and New Vista Society will keep lines of communication open and address any questions and concerns quickly and collaboratively.
