The province purchased 2365 and 2371 Kelly Avenue in Port Coquitlam in June 2021. BC Housing is partnering with New View Society on a proposal to provide approximately 74 new homes on this property for people living with a mental illness.
The proposed housing with supports will provide a person-centered approach where staff can work closely with residents to help them thrive. Staff will be on-site 24 hours a day to ensure residents receive important supports such as:
life skills training
mental health supports
other skill development programs
Development
Demolition of the existing structure on the site took place in August 2023. Several stray cats that were living in or around the site were transported to an animal shelter before the demolition.
The original plans estimated we would build 50-60 new homes on this site. The current designs now include 74 homes in the building. This change will help us to contribute even better to meeting the urgent need for more affordable, accessible housing in the Tri-Cities.
BC Housing plans to submit a Development Permit Application to the City of Port Coquitlam on September 20, 2024.
If the Development Permit is approved, we would start construction in the summer of 2025.
Operator
New View Society will manage the new building and provide services to the residents.
