Prince George – 1550 Victoria Street

Aerial photo of site with multiple long 3 storey appartment buildings with a large beautiful treed area behind them.

In November 2023, BC Housing purchased the property at 1550 Victoria Street, the former North Star Inn. This purchase is a part of our effort to provide more supportive homes as we continue working to address and prevent homelessness in Prince George.

Following renovations, this site will provide up to 96 supportive homes across two buildings, plus outdoor space for tenant use and parking.

What is supportive housing?

Supportive homes are intended for people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness and need support services to maintain their housing. Residents are single adults (19+) of all genders, including seniors and people with disabilities.

Support services for residents include daily meals, life and employment skills training, and health and wellness supports.

Operator

BC Housing selected Connective through a fair and open process to manage the buildings and provide services to the residents. Connective has a long history of providing innovative, person-centered services across BC and the Yukon. They offer a range of housing, life-skills, outreach and employment, and community-based services with the goal of assisting individuals to achieve greater independence.

In October 2023, BC Housing extended an invitation to meet with Lheidli T'enneh First Nation and formally requested a letter of support for this housing initiative.

In November 2023, BC Housing reached out to neighbours and nearby businesses and shared the news about the property purchase. Our first community dialogue session took place online on December 5, 2023. Our second session took place at the Courtyard Marriott in Prince George on January 18, 2024. We thank all participants for their time and thoughtful discussion.
