BC Housing has purchased the property at 1550 Victoria Street, the current site of the North Star Inn, to provide supportive homes in Prince George.
Responding to the urgent need for housing in Prince George
We are working with our community partners to move people experiencing homelessness in Prince George into housing. This site will eventually provide up to 96 supportive homes, plus outdoor space for tenant use and parking, providing much needed shelter for your fellow community members that are currently experiencing homelessness.
To ensure people experiencing homelessness have access to a home sooner, essential renovations will be accelerated, with the remaining renovations to occur after occupancy. Tenants will be selected using the Coordinated Access process and will prioritize individuals from your community who are experiencing homelessness.
What is supportive housing?
Supportive housing is for British Columbians experiencing or at risk of homelessness. People experiencing homelessness are not all the same. They can be young people, seniors, people with disabilities, or anyone who has experienced trauma, poverty, or struggled with the high cost of housing.
Supportive housing typically includes 24/7 support services such as meals, life and employment skills training, and health and wellness supports. Many also provide culturally informed services.
Community Engagement
We recognize there is much local interest in supportive housing in Prince George, and we will continue to work closely with the community to ensure that housing projects are successful for everyone.
