Prince George – 1575 Queensway (Hardwood Apartments)

Exterior view of a 4-storey green apartment building. Snow covered ground with a person staning on entrance stairs.

BC Housing is creating 40 homes with support services at 1575 Queensway in Prince George (Hardwood Place Apartments). These homes will be for youth who are currently living in shelters or who are aging out of care. This project is an important part of our continued effort to address and prevent homelessness in the community.

We will offer these homes first to youth who are currently living in the 16-bed Reconnect Youth Village in downtown Prince George. We will offer the remaining homes to youth in the community who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Services offered through Reconnect will support youth ages 14-18, and young adults ages 19-27.

We plan to renovate this building to add a sprinkler system, upgraded ventilation and electrical and fire alarms. We currently expect this housing to open in Spring 2025.

On-site services and support

Prince George Native Friendship Centre Society will operate Hardwood and deliver on-site support services. The society will offer a range of voluntary, youth-centred services with funding from the Ministry of Child and Family Development.

Services at Hardwood will be offered in a culturally appropriate environment and support at-risk youth to make choices that will set them on a path towards healthy living. These services will include:

  • life-skills training & advocacy
  • employment goal setting & activities
  • promotion of self-efficiency & self-responsibility
  • cultural awareness, exploration & inclusion
  • community engagement

These supportive services were previously only available to Reconnect Youth Village residents. The full program will now transfer to Hardwood when renovations are complete. Reconnect services will nurture the spirit and strength of youth, honoring their culture and heritage and guiding them toward a future where they can thrive with pride and purpose.

The Prince George Native Friendship Centre Society is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization dedicated to servicing the needs of Aboriginal people residing in the urban area and improving their quality of life.

Community engagement

A caring community can contribute greatly to the success of supportive housing residents. BC Housing and Prince George Native Friendship Centre Society commit to being good neighbours and keeping lines of communication open. We will share direct contact information for the building when it is available.

We welcome questions about this project at any time by email to communityrelations@bchousing.org.
