Richmond – Cambie Road and Sexsmith Road

A modern six-story building with a sleek design featuring a mix of black and wooden paneling on its facade.

Artist's rendering subject to change

BC Housing is proposing to build a new six-storey building with approximately 90 supportive homes at Cambie Road and Sexsmith Road in Richmond. These homes would help address the urgent need for supportive housing and help reduce the risk of people experiencing homelessness in Richmond.

The proposal for this site includes:

  • 90 private studio apartments each with a bathroom, kitchenette, and combined living/sleeping space

  • A front reception office, a kitchen and dining area, indoor amenity space, a tenant support office, shared laundry facilities and bicycle parking

The City of Richmond owns this land and would lease it to BC Housing. BC Housing submitted a Rezoning application and a Development Permit application to the City of Richmond on June 26, 2024. If the project is approved, we estimate construction to start in 2025.

Supportive Housing

Supportive homes are deeply affordable studio apartments for people who need supports to maintain their housing.

Supportive housing residents are as varied as any other neighbour. In this building, residents would be single adults (19+) of all genders, including seniors, people with disabilities or any others who need supports to maintain stable housing.

Many of the people who would move into this building are already housed and would move here from other temporary supportive housing sites in Richmond.

Operator

BC Housing has chosen Community Builders though a fair and open process to manage the building and provide services to residents.

Community Builders operates 12 supportive housing and shelter sites across the Vancouver area, with over 700 beds. Community Builders uses a client-led, trauma-informed, adaptive approach, co-creating solutions with residents to help them forge paths toward sustainable health, employment and housing. Learn more about Community Builders by visiting communitybuilders.ca.

Community Engagement

A caring community can contribute greatly to the success of supportive housing residents. BC Housing, the City of Richmond and Community Builders commit to keeping neighbours and the community informed about this supportive housing project.

Project Information

The City of Richmond mailed postcards to area neighbours in June 2024 to share information about the proposed project and invite feedback on the proposal. Project partners also published and shared a Community FAQ in July 2024. This Community FAQ is also available in Traditional Chinese 漢語 and Simplified Chinese 汉语.

Virtual Open House

Community members were invited to visit the Let’s Talk Richmond project webpage for a self-guided presentation and virtual comment period from June 27 to July 15, 2024. There will be additional opportunities for the public to provide feedback throughout the development process.

Contacts

We will share a direct phone number for the housing with neighbours when it is available. Community members can also email communityrelations@bchousing.org at any time with questions about the project.
