Sechelt – Lot 1 Hightide Avenue

BC Housing is proposing to build 40 new supportive homes at Lot 1, Hightide Avenue in Sechelt.

This housing project is part of a wider effort to create an ecosystem of housing and services that will help address and prevent homelessness on the Lower Sunshine Coast. Our aim is to support local people to access the homes and supports they need, when they need them.

Development

BC Housing purchased the property at Lot 1, Hightide Avenue in October 2025. Rezoning is not required. This project requires a Development Permit, Alteration Permit and Building Permit from the District of Sechelt. If these permits are granted, we would start construction in 2027.

We currently expect this housing to open in late 2028.

Supportive Housing

The 40 supportive homes in this building would be deeply affordable studio apartments with support services. Each home would have a kitchenette and private bathroom. The building would also feature a central kitchen, communal dining area and amenity spaces.

Residents would be adults (19+) including seniors and people with disabilities or any others who need supports to maintain stable housing.

Typical supports include:

  • Daily meals

  • Wellness checks and health-care referrals

  • Connections to education, employment and other community services

BC Housing uses a community-based assessment process to offer people supportive homes. This process considers people’s individual needs and the supports available. All supportive housing residents make a choice to live there. They pay rent and sign program agreements.

Non-Profit Housing Operator

BC Housing would select an experienced non-profit housing operator through an open, fair and competitive Request for Proposals process. The operator would manage the building and provide support services to residents.

This project is still in a very early stage. Some details about the housing program or operations may not be available until we select the non-profit housing operator. We will continue to share updates as we are able and engage with neighbours throughout the development process.

We would share a direct phone number for the building when it opens. Staff would work to build positive relationships in the neighbourhood.

Community Engagement

A caring community can contribute greatly to the well-being of supportive housing residents. We will keep lines of communication open throughout the development process.

  • Venue: Seaside Centre, 5790 Teredo Street, Sechelt

  • Format: Drop in any time between 4:30 and 6:30 pm. View the latest project information on poster boards, meet project representatives, and ask questions one-to-one. Please note, this event will not include a formal presentation or public Q&A period.
