Surrey – Bentley Road

Ariel view of property and neighbouring housing

BC Housing and the City of Surrey are partnering to build 60 new supportive homes at 13559 Bentley Road.

The 2023 Report on Homeless Counts in BC identified 1,060 people as experiencing homelessness in Surrey. This is a 65% increase from the previous count in 2020. This housing project is an important part of our effort to address and prevent homelessness in Surrey.

About the building

These new homes will be deeply affordable studio apartments for people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness in the local area and need support services to maintain their housing. Residents will be single adults of all genders, including seniors and people with disabilities.

Residents of the temporary supportive housing at 13425 107A Avenue called SafeSleep will move into this building when it is complete.

The 6-story building will provide 60 studio homes. Each unit will have a private bathroom and kitchenette. There will be 24/7 on site support services including meals, life and employment skills training, and health and wellness support. At least 5% of the homes will be fully wheelchair accessible. The building will also include a central kitchen, dining and common areas, bike parking and staff offices.

Development and Construction

The City of Surrey is leasing the land to BC Housing. The project was made public in June 2023 via Surrey City Council and rezoned for residential use in February 2024.

We are planning to start construction in Winter 2025.

About the Operator

BC Housing selected Surrey Urban Mission Society (SUMS) through a fair and open process to manage this building and provide services to the residents.

SUMS operates 4 shelters as well as a 60-unit temporary supportive housing project called SafeSleep. SUMS also offers outreach and community connection services through their Welcome Hub location.

Community Engagement

A caring community can contribute greatly to the success of supportive housing residents. BC Housing and SUMS commit to keep lines of communication open throughout this project, answer questions, and address any concerns. We will also share direct contact information for the housing when it is available.

BC Housing shared a presentation and participated in a Q&A session with the Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association in January 2024. View this presentation.

We will share more information directly with neighbours as the project moves forward. Please also continue checking this page for the latest updates.
