Surrey – Bentley Road

Ariel view of property and neighbouring housing

BC Housing and the City of Surrey are proposing to build 60 new homes with support services at 13561/13569 Bentley Road.

The 2023 Report on Homeless Counts in BC identified 1,060 people as experiencing homelessness in Surrey. This is a 65% increase from the previous count in 2020. The Bentley Road housing project would be an important part of our effort to address and prevent homelessness in Surrey.

What is Supportive Housing?

Supportive homes are deeply affordable studio apartments. They are intended for people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness and need support services to maintain their housing. Residents would be single adults of all genders, including seniors and people with disabilities. Priority would be given to people in the local community.

This housing would include 24/7 support services such as meals, life and employment skills training, and health and wellness supports.

The Building

This 6-story building would contain 60 studio apartments. Each would have a private bathroom and kitchenette. At least 5% of the homes would be fully wheelchair accessible. The building would also include a central kitchen, dining and common areas, bike parking and staff offices.

Rezoning and Development

The City of Surrey and BC Housing are applying to rezone this site for residential use.

Non-Profit Operator

BC Housing selected Surrey Urban Mission Society (SUMS) through a fair and open process to manage this building and provide services to the residents.

SUMS operates 4 shelters and 1 hygiene unit in surrey, as well as a 60-unit temporary supportive housing project called SafeSleep. SUMS also offers a meal program and other outreach and community connection services through their Welcome Hub location.

Community Engagement

A caring community can contribute greatly to the success of supportive housing residents. BC Housing and SUMS commit to keeping lines of communication open throughout this project, answering questions, and addressing any concerns. We will also share direct contact information for the housing when it is available.

We will share more information directly with neighbours as the project moves forward. Please also continue checking this page for the latest updates.
