Vancouver – Hotel Properties Transition to New Supportive Housing
The Province, through BC Housing, has purchased the 110-room Howard Johnson Hotel at 1176 Granville St. and the 63-room Buchan Hotel at 1906 Haro St. to provide housing in the areas of Vancouver where it’s urgently needed.
The Howard Johnson Hotel at 1176 Granville Street and the adjacent parking lot also present an opportunity to redevelop the sites and build a mix of affordable homes for people in Vancouver. In the interim, the Howard Johnson site will operate as supportive housing while long-term plans are developed.
Housing with Supports
Both hotels will have wraparound supports where people have access to services such as meals, health care, addictions treatment and harm reduction, as well as storage for personal belongings. The sites also have 24/7 staffing to provide security to residents of the building and the surrounding neighbourhood.
Community Dialogue Group
We have set up a Community Dialogue Group to bring together service providers, experienced not for-profit housing providers, business and community representatives to communicate how the hotels are operating, how they will be managed, and receive feedback from the community.
Community Engagement - Now Live
Thank you for participating in BC Housing’s online engagement initiative! This engagement is an opportunity for the community to ask questions and learn more about the new supportive housing being operated at the Howard Johnson and Buchan Hotels. We invite you to check out the designated pages below for more information on each hotel and ask to questions. We will be accepting questions and comments until July 31st
