New warm, safe homes with supports on East King Edward Avenue at Knight Street

Vancouver is in a housing crisis and more than 2,000 people across the city of Vancouver are experiencing homelessness.

Creating warm, safe homes with supports for people who are at risk or are experiencing homelessness in our communities continues to be a top priority for BC Housing and the City of Vancouver.

The new building proposed at 1406 and 1410 E King Edward Ave would be 12 storeys and provide approximately 90 studio homes with supports for single adults, seniors and people with disabilities who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness in the local community.

  • All units would be studio apartments with a private bathroom and kitchen
  • At least 5% of the homes would be fully accessible
  • The building would also include amenities such as laundry, a dining area, program space, and an underground parkade

Moving forward at 1406 and 1410 E King Edward Ave

BC Housing and the City are committed to moving forward with a rezoning application to develop this specific site.

Through the City of Vancouver’s development process, we invite community feedback on aspects of the development proposal, including:

  • Building and site design elements, such as lighting and landscaping
  • Local representation for the Community Advisory Committee
  • Ideas for how to support the success of the building

As with any other development in Vancouver, information about a building’s future residents such as their race, gender, level of income, private healthcare needs, or sexual orientation does not factor into City Council’s decision to approve a site.

Neighbourhood Dialogue Sessions
Neighbours in direct proximity to the proposed homes are invited to learn more through a virtual small group dialogue session.

Public comment period
The community can review and provide comments on the development proposal, which will be posted on this webpage, from March 1-15, 2021.

When a rezoning application is submitted, there will be a further City-led public consultation process
