Prince George – 3177 McGill Crescent

Artist’s rendering – design subject to change
BC Housing and Northern Health are working in partnership with Community Living British Columbia (CLBC) to build 10 units of Complex Care Housing (CCH) at 3177 McGill Crescent in Prince George. This project is an important part of providing the full spectrum of health and housing services to the community.
Development
Preliminary site plan, design subject to change
We selected this site after thorough discussions with Northern Health. We sought to find a location that was close to amenities, such as recreation and shopping, for the sake of walkability and to support community integration. Locating these homes close to public transportation and green space was also important. Together, all these elements promote community inclusion and help residents develop a sense of independence.
Rezoning is not required for this project. The site is currently zoned RM-3 and has had this zoning in place since the 1980s. We will apply for a Development Permit and a Building Permit from the City of Prince George. We currently expect construction to begin in spring 2026.
About Complex Care Housing
The CCH program provides deeply affordable homes with voluntary person-centered health, cultural and social supports. Many of these wraparound services are available to residents under one roof and in their own home, for as long as they need.
Complex Care Housing has been a welcome addition to communities across B.C. Learn more about Complex Care Housing by visiting gov.bc.ca/complexcarehousing.
Several agencies are collaborating to operate the CCH building at 3177 McGill Crescent:
- BC Housing will contract a non-profit operator (to be determined) to provide 24-hour support workers who will provide: meals, housekeeping and overnight support.
- Northern Health will provide nurses, social workers, vocational/recreation workers, peer supports and specialized clinicians to provide on-site support during days and evenings.
- Community Living BC (CLBC) will provide supports to the residents at the McGill project who are eligible to receive them. These services help people with developmental disabilities to live independently in their own homes. Learn more about CLBC services by visiting communitylivingbc.ca/.
Community Engagement
A caring community can contribute greatly to the success of Complex Care Housing residents. We will continue to share updates and keep lines of communication open with neighbours as the project moves forward.
On August 7, 2024, the Provinces announces the McGill project and other Complex Care Housing projects. The same day, BC Housing sends 180 letters to neighbours (within 200m) of the McGill project site. Interest-holder emails are also distributed to businesses and organizations in the College Heights neighbourhood, offering to meet in small groups to share more information. The McGill project Let’s Take page is launched on BC Housing’s website.
On September 20,2024, McGill project partners meet virtually with a representative from the College Heights Neighbourhood Association. A Community FAQ prepared and shared with the representative and on the McGill Let’s Talk page of the BC Housing website. At the meeting’s close, project partners commit to hold a Community Open House and small-group conversations with local interest-holders in early 2025.
From January to February 2025, partners collaborate to organize a Community Open House and small-group conversations with local interest holders. BC Housing mails invitations on January 28 to 180 neighbours (within 200 m) of McGill project site to attend a February 26 Community Open House. The Open House invitation is shared with the City of Prince George and the Lheidli-T'enneh First Nation. Email invitations are sent to 16 businesses and local community organizations to attend one of two small-group conversations, organized for February 25. The McGill Let’s Talk project page is updated on the BC Housing website.
When an operator is chosen for this site, we will introduce them to the neighbourhood. When the building opens, we would share direct contact information with neighbours and work with the non-profit housing operator to address any concerns quickly and collaboratively.
